DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin recently reiterated his profound connection with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, stating that their friendship is deeply rooted in the principle that “the interest of the country prevails over individuals.”
He confidently asserted that the strong ideological understanding and robust relationship between the DMK and the Congress are absolutely crucial for safeguarding India’s future.
Stalin’s remarks, delivered at a family wedding for former Congress MLA R. Chokkar, served to strengthen the alliance’s public image. This comes at a pivotal moment, especially with the upcoming Assembly elections next year, even as some voices within the Congress have expressed desires for more seats and a share in governance.
The Chief Minister acknowledged that while the DMK and the Congress have historically traversed different paths, they are now firmly united on a common journey. This path is dedicated to serving the national interest, advancing the development of Tamil Nadu, and, above all, promoting the unity of the nation.
Stalin expressed heartfelt gratitude for the deep affection shown to him by Mr. Gandhi.
“While addressing other political figures, I typically refrain from using familial terms. However, I always refer to Rahul Gandhi as my brother because he consistently calls me his elder brother, even during phone conversations. This genuine affection is something I hold dear. I share this to highlight how our political camaraderie has evolved into a powerful collective voice for India. We earnestly hope for this same sentiment from all of you,” he shared.
During the event, Mr. Stalin also took a moment to fondly recall the friendship between Mr. Chokkar and his late father, former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. He reminisced about their significant interactions in the State Assembly, adding, “I was a direct witness to his impactful speeches advocating for the demands of his constituents.”
