Residents of Chennai and its nearby areas should prepare for inclement weather as Cyclone Montha is rapidly approaching. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Chennai, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning over the next 24 hours. The cyclonic storm, named Montha, is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by October 28.
Chennai and districts such as Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, and Chengalpattu are likely to witness intense rainfall. B Amudha, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre, confirmed the forecast.

October 27:
Expect cloudy skies with heavy rain and thunderstorms. Maximum temperatures are anticipated around 30°C, with a low of 25°C and humidity near 80%.
October 28:
The weather will remain cloudy with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected to range between 29°C and 24°C, with humidity around 78%.
October 29:
A partly cloudy sky is forecast with isolated rain or thundershowers. No weather warnings have been issued for this day. Temperatures may reach 30°C with a low of 24°C and 75% humidity.
October 30:
Expect generally cloudy skies with light rain. Temperatures are projected between 32°C and 25°C, with humidity around 70%.
October 31:
The forecast indicates partly cloudy skies with a chance of rain and thunderstorms. Highs are expected around 33°C, with lows near 26°C, and humidity around 68%.
November 1:
The day is predicted to have a generally cloudy sky with light rain. Temperatures will be between 33°C and 27°C, with humidity around 70%.
Cyclone Montha’s Expected Path:
The IMD reports that Cyclone Montha is expected to move northwestwards over the Bay of Bengal and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 28. It is very likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, during the evening or night of October 28. The cyclone is anticipated to have wind speeds of 90-100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph.
Andhra Pradesh on Red Alert:
In anticipation of the cyclone’s intensity, a red alert has been issued for several districts in Andhra Pradesh, including Kakinada, Kona Seema, Eluru, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Baptala, Prakasam, and SPSR Nellore.
