People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti recently underscored the vital need for all Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), including those from the ruling National Conference (NC), to collaborate effectively. Their collective goal, she stated, should be to address the long-standing issue of regularizing daily wage workers across Jammu and Kashmir.
Mufti highlighted the urgency of the matter, particularly as the J&K Assembly reconvenes. “As the J&K Assembly reconvenes, one of the most pressing issues that requires immediate attention is the plight of nearly one lakh daily wagers,” she conveyed in a public statement, also shared on social media platform X. She stressed that these dedicated individuals, often from the most vulnerable segments of society, have consistently served as the backbone of numerous government departments, ensuring their seamless operation.
The former Chief Minister passionately asserted that unity among all MLAs is paramount to ensure these workers finally receive the dignity and job security they have earned and rightfully deserve.
It’s worth noting that earlier this year, in March, the Jammu and Kashmir government took a step towards this by forming a six-member committee. This committee was tasked with thoroughly examining all aspects related to the regularization of daily wage workers within the Union Territory. Headed by the Chief Secretary, the committee’s mandate includes evaluating the humanitarian, legal, and financial implications of regularizing casual, seasonal, and other categories of workers, and subsequently proposing concrete recommendations for action.
