In a crucial development following the horrific bus tragedy in Kurnool, the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL) has successfully submitted the DNA reports for the passengers who tragically lost their lives. This step brings a measure of closure to the affected families.
APFSL Director G. Pala Raju confirmed that the DNA reports for 18 victims, who were unfortunately burned to death in the bus fire near Chinna Tekur village on the outskirts of Kurnool, have been forwarded. He stated, “After meticulously matching the DNA samples and bone fragments with blood samples provided by the family members of the deceased, these vital reports have been handed over to the Kurnool district investigation officers.” This swift action means the police can now proceed with handing over the remains to the grieving families.
Remarkably, a dedicated team of forensic experts managed to match all 18 DNA samples in an impressive nine hours, a testament to their diligent efforts during this challenging time.
Mr. Raju further elaborated on the careful process: “Given that the bodies were severely damaged by the fire, we exercised extreme precision in matching the DNA samples. Our APFSL officials diligently matched the blood samples of family members with the bone remains of the victims.”
Looking ahead, physical and chemical analysis teams are set to begin examining the 83 material objects recovered from the burnt bus. This comprehensive investigation is slated to start on Monday, October 27, 2025.
The director added that this detailed analysis will aim to uncover “the precise reasons for the fire’s outbreak, how the flames spread rapidly throughout the ill-fated bus, the causes behind any explosions observed in the vehicle, and other critical aspects related to the incident.” The findings are expected to provide a clearer understanding of this devastating accident.
