The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dismissed recent claims by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, regarding alleged attempts to disenfranchise voters in Aland. The BJP accused Gandhi of making unsubstantiated allegations without providing concrete evidence.
During a press conference held on Thursday, R. Ashok, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, criticized Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, for routinely leveling serious charges in the media without presenting any verifiable proof.
Ashok then launched a counter-offensive, urging Gandhi and his fellow Congress members to shift their attention to the developments in the Malur Assembly Constituency. There, the Karnataka High Court recently annulled the election of sitting Congress MLA K. Y. Nanje Gowda and mandated a re-counting of votes.
“In Malur, the High Court has confirmed irregularities against the Congress candidate, even noting errors made by the District Election Officer. So, why are Congress leaders silent on this matter? Why do they fail to acknowledge this as a clear instance of electoral malpractices by their own party?” Ashok questioned.
Furthermore, Ashok remarked on Gandhi’s alleged “lack of common sense,” recalling previous accusations of “vote theft” in Mahadevapura, which he claimed were proven false. He suggested that the current focus on Aland was merely a diversion and reiterated his call for the Congress to confront the issues in Malur, where a court had overturned one of their own MLA’s elections.
