Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, has leveled serious accusations against the Trinamool Congress (TMC), claiming the party is actively assisting Rohingya infiltrators in establishing themselves in the state. Adhikari asserted that the TMC government is issuing fake documents to these infiltrators.
Speaking at the ‘Bijoy Sankalp’ rally in Gangarampur, Dakshin Dinajpur district, Adhikari expressed concern over the state’s demographic future, stating that if the TMC is not removed in the upcoming elections, the state’s demographic balance could drastically shift.
He clarified the BJP’s stance, emphasizing, “We are not against Indian Muslims. We are against Rohingya infiltrators who will be detected, their names deleted, and finally deported once the BJP comes to power.”
Adhikari also addressed the criticism that the BJP is anti-Muslim. He stated, “I had never said we don’t need Muslim votes… Instead, I had wondered why we are not getting their (Muslim) votes. I think they are being used by TMC for the votebank politics.” He further added that Indian Muslims have benefited from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s welfare projects, and the BJP is committed to the upliftment of all communities, including Muslims.
Adhikari voiced concerns about the declining Hindu population in West Bengal, projecting a drop from 85% to 65% by the 2027 census. He drew parallels with the situation of Hindus in Bangladesh, expressing apprehension that a similar fate might befall them in West Bengal if demographic changes are not halted.
Commenting on the safety of women in the state, Adhikari expressed shame that women are not safe under a female Chief Minister. He cited recent incidents, including a rape of a medical student in Durgapur and alleged atrocities against female medical staff and a minor girl in state-run hospitals, stating that such crimes embolden perpetrators.
In a related statement, Union minister Sukanta Majumdar called for the removal of the Mamata Banerjee government to address the state’s prevailing issues.
