The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has voiced its strong disapproval of the molestation incident involving two members of the Australian women’s cricket team in Indore. The organization described the event as “unfortunate” and stated that such incidents “bring disrepute” to the sport.
“We appreciate the State Police (Madhya Pradesh) for their prompt action to nab the culprit. Let the law take its course to punish the culprit,” said BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, emphasizing the need for justice.
The incident occurred when the two Australian cricketers, participating in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, had stepped out of their hotel to visit a nearby cafe. They were allegedly followed by a man on a motorcycle, who then inappropriately touched one of the players before speeding away. The players promptly reported the incident to their security officer, who alerted local authorities. An FIR has been registered, and the accused, Akil Khan, was arrested shortly after. Police confirmed that Khan has a history of criminal cases.
