In a pivotal address, G.K. Vasan, president of the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar), emphasized the urgent need for political parties in Tamil Nadu, who are aligned against the current ruling DMK, to forge a united front. Speaking at his party’s general council meeting in Pallavaram, Chennai, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, Mr. Vasan passionately advocated for a unified opposition alliance to ensure the Dravidian major is unseated from power in the 2026 Assembly elections.
During his speech, Mr. Vasan reiterated his call for a formidable alliance designed to challenge the DMK effectively in next year’s crucial polls. He also urged party functionaries to dedicate themselves to securing a victory for the AIADMK-led alliance across the State, thereby ensuring his party’s vital representation within the Assembly.
The general council meeting culminated in the adoption of eighteen significant resolutions. These included expressions of gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Council of Ministers for their initiatives on GST rate rationalization and their encouragement of ‘Swadeshi’ (indigenous) products. The council also lauded ‘Operation Sindoor,’ criticized the DMK government for its perceived failure to deliver on promises made during the 2021 Assembly elections, and called upon the State government to construct a dam at Rasimanal and several check dams along the Cauvery River.
Furthermore, the TMC(M) general council passed resolutions demanding a lasting solution to the ongoing challenges faced by fishermen in the Palk Bay. They also voiced strong concerns regarding the escalating crime rates against women in Tamil Nadu, highlighted the burden of increased electricity tariffs and property taxes, and urged the State government to proactively create opportunities for the socio-economic upliftment of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and various minority communities.
