In a disturbing incident recently reported from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, two Australian women cricketers, who were participating in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, became targets of a harrowing experience. They were allegedly stalked, and one of them was molested by a man on a motorcycle. Police confirmed the incident and announced an arrest on Saturday.
Authorities moved swiftly, apprehending the suspect on Friday in connection with the incident that took place early Thursday morning in the Khajrana Road area. An official confirmed the arrest shortly after the complaint was filed.
According to Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi, the cricketers had left their hotel and were heading to a local cafe when they noticed a man on a motorcycle persistently following them.
The situation escalated when the assailant allegedly touched one of the women inappropriately before quickly fleeing the scene.
Immediately following the traumatic event, the players contacted their team’s security officer, Danny Simmons. He promptly coordinated with local security liaison officers, ensuring that a support vehicle was dispatched to assist them.
Upon receiving the information, Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra personally met with the two cricketers. After recording their detailed statements, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the MIG police station under relevant sections concerning the use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty and stalking.
A crucial piece of evidence, the suspect’s motorcycle number, was provided by a vigilant bystander. This information proved instrumental in identifying and apprehending the accused, Akil Khan.
Assistant Commissioner Mishra further revealed that Akil Khan has a history of prior criminal cases. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
