Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot recently shared his vision for India, emphasizing that Swami Vivekananda’s teachings are crucial for the nation’s spiritual awakening, cultural enrichment, and modern prosperity. He urged the youth to adopt these profound ideals as their personal ‘mantra’ and actively contribute to shaping the nation’s future.
During the inauguration of the 11th annual convention of the Karnataka Ramakrishna Vivekananda Bhavaprachar Parishad in Dharwad, the Governor highlighted the importance of embodying qualities like sacrifice, service, and self-confidence. He believes that by engaging in positive endeavors and fostering innovation, the youth can once again elevate India to the status of a ‘Vishwa Guru’ (world leader).
Governor Gehlot underscored that spirituality and humanitarian values have always formed the bedrock of Indian culture. He elaborated on how revered saints, spiritual leaders, and ascetics—through their wisdom, dedication, and practice of yoga—infused every aspect of life with religious devotion, compassion, and morality. Figures such as Kabir, Guru Nanak, Tulsidas, Meerabai, Ravidas, Basaveshwara, Purandara Dasa, Kanaka Dasa, and Akka Mahadevi played a vital role in spreading messages of love, equality, and unity throughout society.
Drawing attention to the ancient Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the whole world as one family), the Governor explained how these spiritual luminaries enriched Indian culture with profound themes of spirituality, ethics, and harmony. Their wisdom, he noted, proudly represented India’s spiritual and cultural heritage on global platforms.
Speaking of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, whom he described as an extraordinary saint and spiritual master, Governor Gehlot recalled the universal message of salvation he offered: ‘numerous beliefs and several routes.’ He cited Rabindranath Tagore’s apt description of Sri Ramakrishna as a bridge connecting ancient and modern spirituality.
Mr. Gehlot also acknowledged the abundance of opportunities, knowledge, and technological advancements available to today’s youth. He stressed that by drawing inspiration from Swami Vivekananda, and integrating discipline, strong character, and integrity into their lives, young individuals can navigate the mental unrest that often accompanies rapid material progress. The wisdom of these great personalities, he asserted, serves as a crucial guide.
The Governor extended his praise to the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashrama for its commendable work in disseminating the life stories, philosophies, and ideals of iconic figures like Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Sharada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda.
The event also featured addresses from distinguished personalities, including Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution; Swami Muktidanand Maharaj, President of Ramakrishna Ashrama, Mysuru; Sri Nirbhayanand Saraswati of Gadag; Sri Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swami of Moorusavir Mutt, Hubballi; and MLA Arvind Bellad. The three-day convention is set to include various sessions on the lives and views of great personalities, alongside dedicated youth and teachers’ conventions, and engaging cultural programs.
