Dehradun: In a significant development following the shooting incident outside Doon Hospital earlier this month, police have successfully apprehended two individuals involved in the crime. The arrests were made late Wednesday night near Doiwala village after a tense exchange of gunfire with law enforcement. A third suspect, who managed to escape during the initial encounter, was apprehended early Thursday morning after an extensive overnight search operation.
The arrested individuals, identified as Sohail Khan (25), Sanu (23), and Javed (30), are reportedly members of the same gang responsible for the October 18 shooting. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun, Ajai Singh, the attack on the victim, Dishant, was motivated by a financial dispute involving Rohan Arya and Vishal Tomar, who had been arrested previously.
Acting on a tip received from the control room regarding three suspicious individuals on a white scooter with a tampered number plate heading towards Laltappad from Chhidarwala, police teams from Doiwala police station set up checkpoints. Upon spotting the police presence, the suspects attempted to evade capture, speeding into a forest area near Kali Temple. A chase ensued, during which the accused opened fire on the police team. In self-defense, officers returned fire, resulting in leg injuries for Sohail Khan and Sanu.
During the operation, authorities recovered two country-made pistols, ammunition, a knife, and the scooter used in the commission of the crime. The injured suspects were provided with immediate medical attention. Interrogation revealed that the accused confessed to their involvement in the shooting of Dishant, stating the attack was orchestrated by Kavyansh Dhama due to a financial dispute.
Javed, the third accused who initially evaded capture, was later arrested from the Doiwala area during a coordinated search. Fresh charges have been filed against all apprehended individuals under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
Police confirmed that the suspects had been actively evading arrest since the incident. With these latest arrests, a total of five individuals linked to the case have now been taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the source of the illegal firearms and identify any other individuals involved in their distribution.
