A deeply distressing incident has emerged from Dehradun, where a 26-year-old woman, Jyoti Pal, has tragically passed away months after undergoing childbirth. Her grieving husband has lodged a formal complaint, alleging that medical professionals inadvertently left a bandage inside her abdomen during a cesarean section procedure. This alleged oversight is suspected to be the cause of a severe infection that ultimately led to her death.
Following the childbirth in January, Jyoti initially seemed to recover well. However, she began experiencing persistent and severe stomach pain shortly thereafter. Despite seeking medical attention at the same hospital where she delivered, the cause of her discomfort remained unclear.
As her condition worsened, Jyoti was transferred to a different hospital. It was during her treatment there that the shocking discovery was made: a forgotten bandage inside her abdomen was identified as the source of a dangerous infection.
Authorities have responded to the grave allegations by forming a four-member committee, led by Dehradun Chief Medical Officer Manoj Sharma, to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. This case highlights the critical importance of meticulous surgical practices and the devastating consequences of medical negligence.
Tragically, such instances of surgical items being left behind are not isolated. Recent reports include a similar case in Meerut where a doctor was booked for allegedly leaving cotton inside a patient after a C-section, and another incident in Karnataka where a surgical mop was found to have been left in a woman’s stomach, necessitating emergency surgery.
