Bharatpur: In a significant development, 27 people have been arrested and two minors have been detained following an attack on police officers and the damage of vehicles in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district on Wednesday. The incident stemmed from a land dispute in Seupura village between two groups.
The situation took a turn for the worse on Monday when approximately 200 individuals converged at Bhim Nagar Tiraha in Bayana town, subsequently blocking the Bharatpur-Karauli state highway. This obstruction caused a traffic jam extending nearly two kilometers. Upon arrival to de-escalate the situation, police personnel faced stone-pelting and vandalism, with two police vehicles sustaining damage.
Bharatpur Superintendent of Police, Digant Anand, stated, “After a land dispute in the village, around 200 people gathered at Bhim Nagar Tiraha in Bayana town. They blocked the state highway and attacked police personnel, damaging vehicles when officials tried to reason with them.”
Following the immediate aftermath, authorities conducted an investigation that led to the identification and apprehension of 27 individuals directly involved in the violence. Additionally, two minors were taken into custody. Notably, two women had been arrested earlier in connection with the incident.
The arrested individuals have been presented before the court and remanded to judicial custody until November 4. They face charges under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
