Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has issued a firm directive: the new Osmania General Hospital (OGH) complex must be completed within an ambitious two-year timeframe. Construction of this crucial healthcare facility, sprawling across 26 acres with a planned built-up area of 32 lakh sq. ft., commenced in October 2025.
The government views the construction of this state-of-the-art hospital as a flagship project. Chief Minister Reddy emphasized the need for the hospital to be outfitted with cutting-edge modern amenities and for its design to anticipate and meet future healthcare demands.
Unveiling the Future of Healthcare at OGH
During a comprehensive review meeting with senior officials, the Chief Minister delved into the progress of the new OGH complex. Situated in Goshamahal, Hyderabad, the project carries an estimated cost exceeding ₹2,000 crore. Initial plans envision a magnificent 2,000-bed facility, boasting advanced capabilities such as robotic surgery, a dedicated academic block, and separate residential hostels for students.
Beyond medical equipment, Mr. Reddy stressed the importance of robust infrastructure, including modern classrooms and laboratories. He also urged officials to meticulously plan construction activities to minimize any inconvenience to local residents. To ensure seamless execution, a high-level coordination committee, comprising officials from the Health, Police, GHMC, Roads & Buildings, and Energy departments, will be formed. This committee is tasked with holding bi-weekly meetings to monitor construction progress and swiftly address any emerging challenges.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister instructed the police department to proactively manage security, traffic flow, and related logistical concerns during the construction phase. A key consideration in the planning of the new complex is its accessibility and seamless connectivity from all corners of the city.
Mr. Reddy also mandated the appointment of senior officials, each responsible for overseeing hospital construction projects in various districts, as well as new medical colleges across the state. These officials are expected to provide round-the-clock supervision, ensuring that all new buildings are completed ahead of the ambitious June next year deadline.
