An Air India flight, identified as AI191, bound for Newark made a precautionary return to Mumbai on Wednesday, October 22, after encountering a suspected technical issue. The airline confirmed that the flight landed safely back in Mumbai and the aircraft is currently undergoing necessary inspections.
As a consequence of this incident, both AI191 (Mumbai to Newark) and AI144 (Newark to Mumbai) flights have been cancelled. Air India has stated that all passengers affected by the cancellations in Mumbai have been provided with hotel accommodations and have been rebooked onto alternative flights with Air India and other carriers to reach their destinations.
Passengers of the AI144 flight departing from Newark have also been notified of the cancellation and are being assisted with making alternative travel arrangements. Air India emphasized that the safety and well-being of its passengers and crew remain its utmost priority.
This incident follows a previous technical issue encountered by an Air India Dreamliner at Milan airport, which led to a flight cancellation to Delhi and left over 250 passengers stranded. Another flight, AI138 from Milan to Delhi, was also cancelled on October 17 due to technical requirements.
