Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy delivered a powerful message of unwavering commitment to the state’s police force and their families during the Police Flag Day ceremony in Hyderabad. On Monday, October 20, 2025, the Chief Minister led heartfelt tributes to police personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, emphasizing his administration’s dedication to their welfare.

Highlighting the profound role of law enforcement, Chief Minister Reddy stated, “Police embody trust and assurance for our society. They stand firm in their duty, even when confronted by life-threatening dangers.” He stressed the collective responsibility to remember those who sacrificed their lives for public safety, underscoring the solemnity of the occasion dedicated to honoring these fallen heroes.

The Chief Minister shared somber statistics, noting that this year alone, 191 police personnel nationwide and six from Telangana lost their lives in service. He specifically named Greyhounds commandos T. Sandeep, V. Sridhar, and N. Pavan Kalyan, Assistant Commandant Banothu Jawaharlal, and Nalgonda constable B. Saidu. Reddy also paid special homage to CCS constable Empalli Pramod Kumar, who was tragically killed in Nizamabad just three days prior.

In a significant gesture of support, Mr. Reddy announced a generous ex-gratia payment of ₹1 crore to Constable Pramod Kumar’s grieving family. This comprehensive package also includes his last drawn salary until his retirement date, a government job for a family member, and a substantial 300-yard house plot. Furthermore, an additional ₹16 lakh will be disbursed from police welfare funds. The Chief Minister also highlighted past commitments, confirming that land had been allocated to the families of 33 policemen who perished in a Maoist attack in Odisha in 2008.

Celebrating the distinguished performance of the Telangana Police, Chief Minister Reddy proudly announced that the department achieved the top ranking nationally in the India Justice Report 2025. He commended the force for its proactive adoption of cutting-edge technology and its unwavering commitment to public safety. He also noted the department’s exemplary work in passport verification, which garnered special appreciation from the Ministry of External Affairs.

“The Telangana Police has emerged as a national benchmark in effectively combating terrorism, extremism, sophisticated white-collar crimes, pervasive drug trafficking, evolving cybercrimes, and various other anti-social activities,” the Chief Minister affirmed. He lauded the newly established ‘Eagle’ wing for its pivotal role in the intensified fight against the drug menace, declaring the government’s firm resolve to transform Telangana into a drug-free state.

Chief Minister Reddy commended the department’s sophisticated use of technology to counter ever-evolving criminal activities, particularly cyber fraud and other digital offenses. He proudly announced the establishment of a dedicated Cyber Security Bureau, spearheaded by a DGP-rank officer. This Bureau, he added, has quickly become a leading model for other states, successfully executing complex inter-state operations against cybercriminals.

Addressing left-wing extremist groups, the Chief Minister made an earnest appeal for Maoists to abandon violence and join the mainstream. He reiterated that the peace and stability enjoyed in Telangana today are the direct result of the immense sacrifices and unwavering perseverance of its police force. He urged those still operating underground to surrender and actively contribute to the nation’s progress.

Highlighting significant strides in gender equality within the force, Mr. Reddy noted the government’s commitment to appointing women IPS officers to critical leadership roles. These officers now head prestigious departments including the Telangana Police Academy, Prisons, SIB, ACB, CID, Vigilance, CCS, and the Cyber Security Bureau. Furthermore, he informed that seven women officers currently serve as Deputy Commissioners of Police across the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda commissionerates.

Describing the demanding nature of police work, Chief Minister Reddy stated, “The duty of a police officer is akin to walking on the edge of a sword. Every moment presents a test, and every day is a struggle.” He acknowledged the constant challenges faced by the force in areas such as crime control, thorough investigation, efficient traffic management, and ensuring overall public safety.

The Chief Minister also touched upon recent recruitment efforts, confirming that 16,000 constables and Sub Inspectors have been brought into the force, emphasizing that their operations are free from political interference. He detailed the extensive support provided to families of police martyrs, which includes guaranteed jobs, housing assistance, comprehensive medical care, educational opportunities, and various other benefits. Notably, ex-gratia payments for senior officers have been substantially increased, now reaching up to ₹2 crore.

In a forward-looking initiative, Mr. Reddy announced the establishment of the Young India Police School in Manchirevula, Rangareddy district. This specialized educational institution aims to provide high-quality education to children of both police personnel and civilians. He also highlighted the appointments of Olympian Nikhat Zareen and celebrated cricketer Mohammed Siraj as DSPs, viewing these as strategic moves that significantly enhanced the prestige and public image of the police force.

“Transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct must remain the foundational pillars of policing,” he declared. He clarified that “friendly policing” is extended to law-abiding citizens, not to those who willfully violate the law. The police, he stressed, are tasked with safeguarding democratic rights while simultaneously ensuring public peace and order.

Concluding his address with deep emotion, the Chief Minister affirmed, “The sacrifices made by our police martyrs are truly priceless.” He reiterated his heartfelt tributes on Police Flag Day, solemnly assuring that his government would continue to provide unwavering support to their families in every conceivable manner.
