Janshakti Janta Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav has been formally charged with violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the submission of his nomination papers for the Mahua Assembly constituency in Bihar’s Vaishali district. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, October 19, 2025, prompted swift action from local authorities.
Police initiated a complaint after a video circulated widely on social media, clearly depicting Mr. Yadav utilizing an SUV adorned with a police emblem and a beacon light during his pre-nomination procession on October 16. Following a thorough review, it was confirmed that the police insignia and beacon were unofficial, leading to the registration of a case against him for breaching election regulations.
This isn’t Mr. Yadav’s first brush with controversy. As the elder son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, he founded the Janshakti Janta Dal after a dramatic expulsion from the RJD on May 25, 2025. This six-year expulsion came after he reportedly admitted to being “in a relationship” on Facebook, a post he later claimed was due to his page being ‘hacked’. His father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, also publicly disowned him, citing “irresponsible behaviour.”
Just days after his ousting from the RJD, Mr. Yadav publicly claimed a “conspiracy” was underway to create a rift between him and his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav. He expressed these frustrations through posts on his social media handle, metaphorically blaming “Jaichand” figures for the internal party crisis.
