Sheikh Riyaz, the individual accused of brutally murdering Constable Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, met his end in a police encounter on Monday. The incident occurred at Nizamabad Government Hospital, where Riyaz reportedly attempted to disarm officers and open fire.
Riyaz had been in police custody since Sunday, sought in connection with the fatal stabbing of 42-year-old Constable Pramod. The constable was tragically killed while escorting Riyaz to a police station in Nizamabad just days earlier. Following this heinous crime, Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy initiated a comprehensive manhunt, deploying specialized teams to track down the fugitive.
Prior to this confrontation, Nizamabad police reported that Riyaz had also attacked a man named Asif in Sarangapur. Asif, who was assisting the police in their efforts to apprehend Riyaz, sustained serious injuries during the struggle. Both individuals were subsequently hospitalized, and Riyaz was officially taken into custody.
However, the calm in the Nizamabad Government Hospital was shattered on Monday. While receiving treatment, Riyaz allegedly launched another assault on police personnel. During the ensuing struggle, he managed to grab an officer’s weapon, attempting to use it against them. Law enforcement swiftly responded, resulting in Riyaz being fatally shot in the exchange.
DGP Shivadhar Reddy confirmed Riyaz’s death during the police operation, reaffirming the Telangana Police’s unwavering commitment to upholding law and order and apprehending dangerous criminals.
“The Telangana Police Department extends its heartfelt tribute to the martyred constable, Amar Empalli Pramod Kumar, who was tragically killed by the criminal Sheikh Riyaz. Our department honors those who make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” stated DGP Shivadhar Reddy.
Furthermore, the DGP announced significant support for Constable Pramod’s grieving family. This includes an ex gratia payment of ₹1 crore, continued salary payments until Pramod’s retirement age, a government job for one family member, and a 300-yard housing plot under GO 155. Additionally, the family will receive ₹16 lakh from the Police Security Welfare fund and an additional ₹8 lakh from the Police Welfare fund.
The DGP emphasized that both the government and the police department are dedicated to providing comprehensive support to Pramod’s wife, Pranitha, and their three young sons during this incredibly difficult time.
