Kozhikode, Kerala – September 18, 2025 – Chettur Balakrishnan, a revered senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala, has sadly passed away at the age of 80.
A distinguished member of the BJP’s national council, Mr. Balakrishnan had been living a quiet, retired life at his home in Omassery, Kozhikode, battling age-related health challenges. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to public service, notably serving as the BJP’s Kerala State vice-president and the president for the Kozhikode district.
Beyond party politics, Mr. Balakrishnan also played an active role in local governance and community development. He was twice elected to the Mukkom grama panchayat and contributed significantly as a functionary of the Mukkom Service Cooperative Bank, as well as a director of the Kerala Gramin Bank.
His commitment to electoral democracy saw him contest the 1996 Assembly elections from the Koduvally constituency, though he was not successful.
Before his political ascent, Mr. Balakrishnan served as a staff member at the AUP school in Malayamma, touching many lives through education.
He is survived by his beloved wife and two sons, who mourn his passing alongside countless admirers and party workers.
