A routine desire for a samosa at Jabalpur railway station escalated into an unfortunate incident for a passenger. What should have been a quick, inexpensive snack — typically costing around ₹5 or ₹10 — ended up costing him his watch.
The event unfolded on October 17th at Jabalpur railway station in Madhya Pradesh. As the passenger attempted to pay for his samosa using UPI, he noticed his train was about to depart. In his haste to board, the samosa vendor reportedly grabbed him by his collar, demanding payment.
Attempts to retry the digital payment failed, leaving the passenger with no alternative but to hand over his watch to the vendor to settle the transaction.
Jabalpur Station Video Goes Viral
A video documenting the encounter quickly spread across social media, inciting a strong public reaction. While many condemned the vendor’s actions as unacceptable, others expressed sympathy, considering the customer’s attempt to leave without paying.
Authorities from the West Central Railway took swift action after the video gained traction. The vendor, identified as Sandeep Gupta, was apprehended and faces charges under the Railway Act. His vendor license is also reportedly being revoked.
However, the swift action against Gupta has also drawn criticism online, with some highlighting his background and questioning the severity of the penalty. Many users have raised the question of what recourse a vendor has if a customer attempts to leave without fulfilling their payment obligation.
The viral video itself shows the vendor handing the passenger additional samosas after receiving the watch, which some social media users interpret as a sign that the vendor’s primary concern was receiving payment for his goods and services, rather than malicious intent.
