In a dramatic turn of events, Sheikh Riyaz, the prime suspect in the murder of 42-year-old Constable E. Pramod, was successfully apprehended by police on Sunday, October 19. His capture in Nizamabad came shortly after he allegedly attempted to assault another individual, identified as Asif, near Sarangapur within the jurisdiction of Nizamabad Town 6 Police Station.
According to an official statement released by the Nizamabad Police Commissioner’s Office, the incident saw two individuals sustain injuries during a brief altercation. Quick-thinking police personnel, who were present at the scene, intervened promptly, securing Riyaz and taking him into custody. Both Riyaz and Asif were immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Director General of Police B. Shivdhar Reddy officially confirmed Riyaz’s arrest on Sunday afternoon in Nizamabad. He also emphatically refuted earlier rumors suggesting that there had been any exchange of gunfire during the apprehension, clarifying the circumstances of the arrest.
Riyaz had been a wanted man since the previous day, Saturday, following the brutal stabbing death of Constable Pramod. The constable was escorting Riyaz to a police station in Nizamabad when the fatal incident occurred. In response to the tragic loss, the Director General of Police had swiftly launched a massive manhunt, deploying specialized teams across the region to locate and arrest the suspect.
Additionally, the DGP had assigned Multi Zone-I IGP Chandrasekhar Reddy to personally oversee the ongoing investigation, ensuring that all necessary resources and support were extended to Constable Pramod’s grieving family.
