Get ready for a significant weather shift! The Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) in Visakhapatnam has announced that a low-pressure area is expected to develop over the Bay of Bengal around October 21st.
According to their Sunday, October 19, 2025, forecast, this system could bring isolated rainfall activity as early as October 20th, coinciding with the Deepavali festival.
The current upper air cyclonic circulation, which has been hovering over the South Andaman Sea and adjacent southeast Bay of Bengal, and reaching up to 1.5 km above sea level, is still active. This circulation is the key factor driving the anticipated formation of the low-pressure area in the southeastern Bay of Bengal by October 21st.
Forecasters predict that this system will then track west-northwestwards, strengthening into a full-fledged depression over the central and adjoining west-central parts of the South Bay of Bengal within the following 48 hours.
The CWC’s statement further highlights a likelihood of increased rainfall across Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on October 23rd and 24th due to this evolving weather system.
Prior to the main event, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected in most areas of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam until October 20th. Additionally, isolated thunderstorms with lightning could also affect these regions.
Specific districts are advised to prepare for intense downpours. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in one or two locations within Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, and Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore districts, as well as Yanam. Other regions, including Srikakulam, Parvathipuram-Manyam, Vizianagaram, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Kakinada, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Krishna, and Tirupati districts, along with Yanam, should expect heavy rainfall in isolated spots.
Looking ahead to October 20th and 21st, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam can expect scattered light to moderate rain or thundershowers. Meanwhile, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh is projected to experience similar rainfall activity in many areas, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning possible across all of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.
