The highly anticipated two-day State Conference of the Senior Citizens’ Service Council successfully concluded on Sunday in Kottayam, Kerala. This important gathering brought together members from across the state to discuss critical issues facing the elderly community and chart a path forward for advocacy and support.
A key outcome of the conference was the election of new leadership. P. Chandrasenan was unanimously appointed as the new president, with K.L. Sudhakaran taking on the crucial role of general secretary. The newly formed secretariat comprises a dedicated team including N. Ananthakrishnan, S. Hanifa Rawther, G. Surendran Pillai, P. Vijayamma, K.K. Neelakandhakurup, C. Vamadev, G. Krishnankutty, Balan Olikal, and M.F. Francis. In addition to these appointments, a robust 231-member State Council and a 140-member State Committee were also elected, ensuring broad representation and active participation.
A central highlight of the conference was an insightful seminar focused on the fundamental rights and existing laws pertaining to senior citizens. Former Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran inaugurated this crucial session, underscoring the government’s commitment to elder welfare. The engaging presentation on the topic was delivered by S. Hanifa Rawther, prompting valuable dialogue and raising awareness about legal protections available to the elderly.
