Kerala ‘Drishyam’ Style Murder: Man Kills Wife and Buries Body Near Construction Site

Police in Kerala have apprehended a man hailing from West Bengal in connection with the murder of his wife. The accused allegedly killed his wife and subsequently buried her body near a construction site in Ayarkunnam, Kottayam district. The incident bears a striking resemblance to the plot of the Bollywood film ‘Drishyam’.

The arrested individual has been identified as Soni SK, a 31-year-old construction labourer from Murshidabad district in West Bengal. He was apprehended at a railway station in Ernakulam while reportedly attempting to flee back to his hometown with his children.

A Murderous Plot Inspired by ‘Drishyam’

Authorities revealed that Soni SK is suspected of meticulously planning and executing the murder of his 28-year-old wife, Alpana Khathoon. Following the alleged crime, he buried her near the under-construction house where they both worked.

The investigation began when Soni SK filed a missing person’s report on October 17, stating that his wife had disappeared three days prior. He claimed that Alpana Khathoon had gone with him to buy groceries on the morning of October 14 but was not present when he returned from work later that day.

Suspicious Circumstances and CCTV Evidence

The police became suspicious due to the delay in reporting the incident and the lack of any trace of the woman in the available CCTV footage from the area. This prompted a deeper investigation.

When summoned for questioning on Saturday, Soni SK reportedly failed to cooperate and attempted to leave for West Bengal. However, acting on a tip-off, police intercepted and detained him, bringing him back for further interrogation.

Confession and Recovery of the Body

During police questioning, Soni SK confessed to strangling his wife on the morning of October 14 at the construction site. He admitted to further assaulting her with an iron rod, leading to her death. He then proceeded to bury her body near their workplace, citing suspicions of an extramarital affair as the motive for the murder.

Following his confession, police took Soni SK to the location where the body was buried. After exhuming and recovering the body, a thorough procedure was completed at the crime scene. The accused has been taken into custody and will be presented before the court as part of the legal remand process.
