As the joyous Deepavali festival approaches, police in both Tiruchi and Pudukottai districts have significantly increased their presence to prevent crime and ensure public safety. Special attention is being given to bustling areas like places of worship, popular tourist destinations, bus stands, and commercial hubs, where large crowds are expected to gather.
More than 1,000 police officers and Home Guards are now stationed across Tiruchi district to manage crowds and maintain order during the ‘festival of lights.’ This dedicated team includes members of the Striking Force and anti-sabotage units. They are also actively educating the public on safety measures through engaging audio-visual presentations in key subdivisions: Jeeyapuram, Tiruverumbur, Lalgudi, Musiri, and Manapparai.
This heightened security began on the night of October 17 and will continue until October 21, encompassing the entire Deepavali celebration period, which falls on October 20, according to police officials.
Similarly, in the adjacent Pudukottai district, extensive patrolling is underway across seven subdivisions: Pudukottai, Aranthangi, Keeranur, Ponnamaravathi, Alangudi, Kottaipattinam, and Illupur. Police teams are actively monitoring crowded markets, bus terminals, and other high-traffic locations. This proactive strategy, which also started on October 17 and runs until October 21, is designed to enhance public safety and significantly reduce crime during the festivities.
Adding another layer of security, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) carried out thorough anti-sabotage checks at the Tiruchi railway junction on Sunday, October 19. These extensive inspections, conducted in anticipation of Deepavali, confirmed that no suspicious items, explosives, or flammable materials were present.
Firefighters on Standby
Meanwhile, Tiruchi district’s Fire and Rescue Services are fully prepared to respond to any emergency. Equipped with all necessary gear, their personnel are ready to handle fire incidents swiftly and efficiently on Deepavali.

Fire tenders and dedicated teams have also been strategically positioned at key city locations like Teppakulam, Chathram bus stand, and Gandhi Market, ensuring rapid response to any fire call during the festive day, a senior department official confirmed.
