Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat had a fortunate escape following a car accident in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday evening. The senior Congress leader was traveling from Delhi to Dehradun when his convoy was involved in a collision on NH-58 near Kharoli, between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM.
According to Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Raghavendra Mishra, the incident happened when a police escort vehicle, part of Rawat’s convoy, had to brake abruptly as a man suddenly appeared in its path. This sudden braking led to a chain reaction, with vehicles behind it ramming into each other, including the former CM’s car.
Fortunately, Mr. Rawat was unharmed in the accident. He was promptly assisted by the police personnel present and was moved to another vehicle to continue his journey to Dehradun. While the former Chief Minister escaped unhurt, a head constable traveling in the police escort vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Mr. Rawat himself took to social media platform X to reassure his supporters, stating, “I am fine. There is no need to worry, although the car has definitely been damaged.” Congress leader Chaudhary Yashpal Singh also confirmed Rawat’s safety, crediting the quick actions of the police for preventing a more serious mishap.
