The Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) recently announced its forward-looking roadmap for the upcoming year, highlighting significant past achievements and an ambitious vision for the future. Council Chairman V. Balakista Reddy articulated a shift in focus, stating, “higher education is moving from quantity to quality – institutions to innovation, and from regulation to facilitation.”
In a major development, the Council has transitioned under the new Telangana Council of Higher Education Act, 2024, establishing an independent framework for governance. Complementing this, a state-of-the-art digital platform has been launched, providing over 187,000 users with instant access to academic calendars, examination updates, and crucial institutional data.
Furthermore, Mr. Reddy detailed a significant overhaul in curriculum and skill development. New initiatives integrate over 20 credits for essential skill-based courses, covering cutting-edge fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity, alongside crucial soft skills. To foster global perspectives and advanced learning, the TGCHE has also forged strategic partnerships with renowned international institutions, including the University of San Diego and the University of Birmingham, with a strong emphasis on boosting research and innovation.
Looking ahead, the TGCHE’s upcoming initiatives are meticulously aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and Telangana’s aspirational ‘Telangana Rising 2047’ vision. These plans include a comprehensive digital transformation across all universities through advanced ERP and academic management systems, the creation of dedicated District Skill and Research Centres, and the active promotion of faculty exchange and international mobility programs. The Council also intends to establish dynamic research clusters in critical frontier areas such as AI, biotechnology, and clean energy, while simultaneously enhancing governance transparency through e-office implementation and widespread RTI awareness campaigns.
