Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Andhra Pradesh president P.V.N. Madhav urged citizens to champion local products during the festive season and beyond. He emphasized this aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) and a “Viksit Bharat” (developed India).
Speaking at the Dhanvantri Jayanthi celebration in Tirupati on Saturday, Mr. Madhav specifically highlighted Diwali. He encouraged people to steer clear of imported firecrackers, opting instead for those made within the country. He also appealed for support for the Kummari community by purchasing their handcrafted earthen diyas.
The BJP State chief further elaborated on the importance of respecting traditional castes and communities. He pointed out that divisive narratives about the caste system and untouchability were largely colonial constructs, stating that “India” and “Hindu” are interconnected, with Hinduism’s true spirit rooted in universal acceptance.
Underscoring India’s long-standing communal harmony, Mr. Madhav addressed the misconception that only Brahmins hold significant roles in temples. He clarified that while Brahmins serve as priests, various other communities contribute equally, citing Yadavs who open temples and Nayi Brahmins who perform traditional music.
Mr. Madhav honored Nayi Brahmins as descendants of Lord Dhanvantari, advocating for the protection of their traditional profession against the rise of corporate beauty salons and spas. He promised forthcoming government action, including a new G.O. to secure permanent positions for Nayi Brahmins in public hospitals and correctional facilities.
