A single act of generosity from a student in Perinthalmanna has remarkably provided crucial food kits to over 180 individuals facing famine in Gaza. Sayyid Sufiyan P.M. demonstrated how even the smallest gesture of kindness can create a profound and lasting impact across the globe.
Sufiyan, a popular Instagram singer boasting 77,000 followers, initiated a unique fundraising campaign: a “₹33 a week” challenge aimed at alleviating hunger in Gaza. The public’s response was incredibly heartwarming, with donations quickly reaching an astounding ₹1.92 lakh.
He connected with the people of Gaza through the ‘Gaza Food Relief Project,’ spearheaded by a dedicated Palestinian social worker, Mohammed Ayyad. Sufiyan explains, “I found Mr. Ayyad through Palestinian scholar Zacharia, who had previously helped me with Quran recital pronunciation on Instagram two years ago.”
After seeing Mr. Ayyad’s compelling charity video, Sufiyan felt a strong call to action. “That video truly moved me,” he shared. “So, I launched the fundraiser, asking for just ₹33, and the results were simply incredible.” Sufiyan, who also serves as the Vettathur sector secretary of the Sunni Students Federation, was overwhelmed by the generosity.
Upon receiving a food kit, one Gazan child expressed deep gratitude, saying, “Shukran, ya Sayyid Sufiyanu barakallahu feek,” which translates to “Thank you, Sayyid Sufiyan, may Allah bless you.”
Mr. Ayyad shared powerful videos documenting the distribution of these essential food kits to starving children in Gaza, many of whom had survived recent bombings. Sufiyan recounts, “We were able to reach over 180 Gazans sheltering in 30 tents, their homes tragically destroyed by Israeli forces.” The profound gratitude reflected in the eyes of the young Palestinian children, whispering “Shukran,” left Sufiyan with “a feeling of empathy and fulfillment beyond words.”
As a student at Jamia Masalik, Kottur, near Kottakkal, Sufiyan is now inundated with offers of further assistance. The viral spread of the Gaza relief video has been a revelation for him. “It taught me a significant lesson: even a tiny act of kindness can generate enormous ripples,” he stated. “My challenge proved that if each person contributes a mere ₹33, it can provide a Gazan with a week’s worth of food.”
Encouraged by this success, philanthropists are now urging Sufiyan to expand his efforts and provide even greater support to Gaza.
