Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D. Raja enthusiastically welcomed the Karnataka Cabinet’s recent decision to prohibit organizations like the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from conducting activities on public premises. He described this move as a crucial step towards shielding India’s democratic institutions from pervasive ideological influence.
Speaking at a press conference in Bengaluru following the CPI Karnataka State Council meeting, Mr. Raja highlighted that this government decision underscores the State’s dedication to preserving constitutional values and secular principles. Saathi Sundaresh, the CPI Karnataka State secretary, also attended the briefing.
Mr. Raja further asserted that the RSS has engaged in a “systematic infiltration” of vital public institutions, specifically mentioning the judiciary, educational systems, and various bureaucratic sectors. He elaborated, “We have witnessed instances where retired judges assume gubernatorial or other significant roles. Furthermore, appointments within universities and other educational bodies appear to be closely monitored by the RSS.”
He reiterated his strong approval of the Cabinet’s resolution, stating that it would significantly curtail the RSS’s ideological footprint within government offices, schools, and other public facilities. “Public spaces must unequivocally remain free from any organization that propagates divisive or sectarian doctrines. The Karnataka Cabinet’s action sends a clear message: the State will not condone communal interference in its public administration,” Mr. Raja emphasized.
In a related appeal, the CPI leader called upon Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D.K. Shivakumar to foster enhanced coordination among the INDIA bloc’s constituent parties within the State. “It is absolutely crucial that all secular and democratic entities unite to politically and ideologically challenge the RSS-BJP alliance,” he stated, suggesting an urgent meeting of allied parties to solidify opposition unity.
