In a deeply unfortunate event, a 42-year-old police constable lost his life after being stabbed by a 24-year-old theft suspect. The incident took place on Friday evening in Nizamabad town, Telangana, as the constable was escorting the accused to the police station.
Constable E Pramod, attached to the Central Crime Station (CCS) in Nizamabad, was on duty with his nephew when they went to Hashmi Colony to arrest Sheikh Riyaz, who was implicated in a two-wheeler theft. While en route to the station, with Riyaz seated between them on the motorcycle, the accused allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Constable Pramod in the chest near Vinayaknagar.
The constable’s nephew attempted to intervene but also sustained injuries to his hands. Simultaneously, two unidentified individuals on a separate motorcycle arrived, seemingly to aid Riyaz’s escape. CCS sub-inspector S Vitthal, who was following the group, rushed to the scene, but Riyaz managed to flee with his accomplices. The injured constable was taken to Nizamabad Government General Hospital, where he was unfortunately declared brought dead. His nephew’s condition is reported to be stable.
Constable Pramod is survived by his wife and three children. Authorities have heightened security across the district and are actively seeking Riyaz and his associates. In response to the incident, Telangana’s Director General of Police, B Shivadhar Reddy, has instructed the Nizamabad Police Commissioner to form special teams to apprehend the culprits. The DGP also requested the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to personally oversee the situation in Nizamabad. Expressing profound sorrow over the loss of a dedicated officer, the DGP assured full support to the bereaved family and vowed swift action against those responsible.
