Assam’s Council of Ministers recently saw a key expansion as Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) MLA Charan Boro officially joined the Cabinet. This swearing-in ceremony, held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, marks a notable moment for the state’s political structure.
Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya presided over the event, administering the oath of office and secrecy to Boro, a second-term MLA representing the Majbat constituency. His induction completes the State Council of Ministers, filling the last available portfolio.
This development follows the BPF’s impressive victory in the recent Bodoland Territorial Council elections. Although the party had previously supported the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition in the Assembly, they are now formally integrated into the government.
The ceremony at the Raj Bhavan was attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with several of his Cabinet colleagues and other distinguished guests.
With Boro’s inclusion, the Cabinet now consists of 15 members from the BJP (including the Chief Minister), two from the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and one each from the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and the BPF. This marks the fourth expansion of the Sarma-led Cabinet.
