As the festive spirit of Diwali fills the air, commuters in the national capital are already experiencing significant traffic disruptions across various routes. To help manage the increased congestion, the Delhi Traffic Police has released an advisory, urging everyone to plan their journeys carefully during the Diwali rush.
The police have noted that road damage and ongoing repair work are further contributing to slow traffic movement at key intersections. Motorists are strongly advised to allow for extra travel time and consider using alternative routes when navigating Delhi-NCR.

Diwali Rush and Road Conditions: Essential Information
- Bhera Enclave Chowk: Traffic has been severely impacted due to a large pothole caused by a damaged sewer line. Diversions are in place, with traffic from Vikaspuri being redirected through the underpass towards Peeragarhi, and vehicles from Jwala Heri rerouted towards GH-14.
- Mathura Road: A broken-down Cluster bus near the NFC Red Light has caused significant disruption on Mathura Road, particularly for traffic heading from Badarpur towards Ashram Chowk, leading to a bottleneck during peak hours.
- Market Areas: The overall situation is exacerbated by the heavy influx of vehicles as people shop for Diwali. Major market areas like Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, and Connaught Place are expected to experience peak crowding and associated traffic jams in the evenings.
In preparation for the increased demand, the Delhi Traffic Police have bolstered their presence and implemented special traffic management plans for these busy market areas. Measures include the removal of illegally parked vehicles and on-the-spot issuance of fines to ensure smoother traffic flow.
The Delhi Police has also canceled all leaves for traffic personnel to ensure maximum deployment and effective management of the festive season rush.
