Australian powerhouse opener Travis Head firmly believes that the “magnificent white-ball duo,” Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, will continue their stellar careers all the way through to the 2027 ODI World Cup.
While whispers about their future have grown louder, all eyes will be glued to these Indian batting maestros when the much-anticipated ODI series kicks off in Perth on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Standing alongside India’s spinner Axar Patel during a media interaction, Head confidently stated he’d bet on Rohit and Kohli making their presence felt in the World Cup two years from now, even if this upcoming series marks their final appearance in Australia.
“They are two incredible players, truly among the greatest in white-ball cricket. Virat, in my opinion, is probably the ultimate white-ball player, and Rohit isn’t far behind at all.”
“As a fellow opener in the same format, I hold immense respect for Rohit and everything he has achieved. Of course, their absence will be felt whenever they eventually retire, but I believe both will be around 37 by then, right?” Head remarked, with Axar beside him.
India and Australia share a frequent rivalry across all formats, and many players are well-acquainted through the Indian Premier League. However, Head revealed he hasn’t yet had the chance to discuss batting with Rohit, a conversation he eagerly anticipates.
“It’s fantastic to observe him from a distance. I think he approaches the game in a similar manner to me, and having played against him extensively in both the IPL and international cricket, I truly feel he conducts himself admirably on the field.”
“While I haven’t directly interacted with him or had the opportunity to play alongside him anywhere, that chance might still arise. As I said, I expect him to play for a good while longer, perhaps giving us an opportunity in India sometime,” the left-hander added.
When questioned about his own participation in all eight white-ball matches against India, especially with the Ashes series looming, Head remained tight-lipped.
Regarding Cameron Green’s withdrawal from the India series, Head clarified that it’s largely a precautionary measure, safeguarding him for the upcoming Ashes.
“I’m confident Green is doing well and is in capable hands. I haven’t had a chance to speak with him directly yet, so this news is quite fresh. We’ll navigate this, as we do with any player injuries. We also have Josh Hazlewood in a similar situation.”
“It’s unfortunate he won’t be with us, but I don’t foresee it affecting the Ashes at all. The real disappointment is his absence from these next three games,” Head explained.
He anticipates another fiercely competitive series, echoing the long-standing tradition between the two cricketing giants.
“Absolutely, it’s always a massive series. With the caliber of players involved across these eight games, facing such highly skilled opposition makes it a truly thrilling start to the summer,” he concluded.
