The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a forceful demand for a thorough investigation into serious allegations surrounding Minister of Environment & Forests, Konda Surekha. This call extends beyond the Minister to include accusations made by her own daughter against the ruling Congress Government. The BJP highlighted that the controversy has also drawn in other cabinet ministers and close associates of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, suggesting a broader pattern of misconduct.
During a press briefing on Thursday, state BJP president N. Ramchander Rao brought to light reports alleging that the Minister’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Sumanth, has been involved in intimidating cement company owners. Rao didn’t mince words, asserting, “The Congress government finds itself entangled in a web of illicit settlements, intimidation tactics, and rampant corruption. It is imperative that the party’s leaders publicly account for their assets, undeclared holdings, and any ill-gotten gains.”
Further intensifying his attack, Mr. Rao characterized the current administration as a “looting government,” whose tenure is defined by threats and extortion. He criticized the Congress Government for what he described as negligence and inefficiency, citing delayed benefits for retired employees, untimely salary payments, soaring unemployment, and an overall breakdown in administration. He drew parallels to the previous BRS government, claiming both parties engaged in widespread plundering of Telangana’s resources, and are now merely squabbling over the spoils.
The BJP leader urged the citizens of Telangana, particularly those residing in Jubilee Hills, to reject such “corrupt parties and candidates who resort to intimidation.” He specifically accused Naveen Yadav, the Congress candidate for the upcoming Jubilee Hills by-election, of facing numerous corruption charges.
Following his statements, Mr. Rao officially presented the B form to L. Deepak Reddy, the BJP’s candidate for the Jubilee Hills by-poll.
Adding to the BJP’s critique, Union Minister of Coal & Mines G. Kishan Reddy addressed booth presidents and party workers in the Borabanda division. He declared that the impending by-election would serve as a pivotal moment in Telangana’s political landscape. Reddy accused both the BRS and Congress of neglecting the constituency over the past decade, leading to significant civic deterioration, including chronic drainage issues and accumulating garbage.
He further alleged that the Congress candidate was selected in consultation with AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, suggesting a collusive effort among the three parties—Congress, BRS, and AIMIM—to “suppress” the BJP. Kishan Reddy concluded by criticizing the Congress for its failure to fulfill its electoral promises.
