In a dramatic turn of events anticipating a significant cabinet reshuffle, every minister in Gujarat’s Bhupendra Patel government submitted their resignations on Thursday, October 16, 2025. This decisive action clears the path for a fresh, invigorated team to take oath on Friday.
Sources indicate that the current 17-member council is poised for a substantial expansion, potentially growing to 22 or 23 ministers. This means a wave of new faces are expected to join the cabinet, with almost half of the existing ministers likely to be replaced in what promises to be one of the most impactful shake-ups during Chief Minister Patel’s time in office.
The formal swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 AM on Friday, October 17, 2025, where Governor Acharya Devvrat will administer the oath of office. A senior party leader hinted that approximately ten new ministers are slated for induction into the expanded cabinet.
Currently, the Gujarat cabinet comprises 17 individuals, split between eight Cabinet-rank ministers and eight Ministers of State (MoS). Given the 182-member Assembly, the state has the constitutional capacity to accommodate up to 27 ministers, representing 15% of its total legislative strength.
Among the anticipated promotions, Majura MLA Harsh Sanghavi, previously serving as the Minister of State for Home and Sports, is expected to be elevated to a full Cabinet minister. This elevation aligns with the BJP’s broader strategy to foster young talent and recognize strong performance within its state organizational structure.
Adding to the fresh faces, Rivaba Jadeja, the first-time MLA from Jamnagar and wife of renowned cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, is set to make her debut in the state Cabinet, marking a notable entry into state politics.
This cabinet overhaul comes on the heels of another significant change earlier this month: the appointment of former Minister of State Jagdish Vishwakarma as the new BJP state president, succeeding Union Minister C.R. Paatil.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel assumed office for his second term on December 12, 2022.
