A shocking incident at Delhi Public School (DPS), Nacharam, has left a 14-year-old Class IX student severely injured after a ‘birthday bumps’ tradition among classmates went terribly wrong during school hours.
Following a formal complaint filed by the boy’s mother on September 11, Nacharam police have initiated an investigation and registered a case.
The mother’s complaint details that the unfortunate event took place on August 29, the student’s birthday. During the ‘birthday bumps’, classmates lifted the boy, and one student reportedly kneed him in the groin while others continued to apply pressure.
An officer from the Nacharam police department confirmed, “The boy immediately experienced intense pain, followed by bleeding and significant swelling in his private parts.” His mother further disclosed that school authorities only informed her after her son reported the incident to the vice principal.
Allegations of Negligence Surface
The injured student was initially rushed to two different private hospitals before being transferred to Care Hospital in Banjara Hills. There, on August 30, doctors diagnosed severe testicular damage and performed urgent surgery. He has since been prescribed a strict three-month period of complete bed rest, with medical professionals indicating that a full assessment of his recovery will only be possible after this extensive period.
The aggrieved mother has vehemently alleged negligence not only against the students directly involved but also against the school staff, asserting that there was an unacceptable delay in providing prompt and adequate medical attention.
She has formally requested stringent action against all parties deemed responsible for her son’s grave injuries.
The Nacharam police have officially filed a case and are actively pursuing their investigation into the matter.
