A catastrophic explosion tore through the home of a firecracker trader in Sultanpur district early Wednesday, leaving nine individuals injured. Among the casualties were seven members of one family.
Police reported that the blast occurred around 4:40 AM in Miyaganj village at the residence of Mohammad Yaseen, a licensed firecracker dealer. The force of the explosion completely obliterated the house and caused significant cracks in neighboring properties.
The injured family members have been identified as Nazir (65), his wife Jamaat-ul-Nisha (62), their sons Noor Mohammad (25) and Suhail (17), and daughters Sada (12), Khushi (15), and Sahana (20). Additionally, two neighbors, Faizan (8) and Kaif (22), sons of Abdul Hameed, sustained injuries.
Mohammad Yaseen, the firecracker trader, has been taken into custody for questioning as police actively investigate multiple possibilities to determine the precise cause of the explosion.
Local residents swiftly responded to the emergency, rushing to aid the injured and transporting them to the community health center in Jayasinhpur. Those with severe burn injuries were subsequently transferred to Sultanpur Medical College for advanced care. Emergency services, including police and fire brigade teams, quickly arrived at the scene to commence rescue and relief operations.
Senior officials, including Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. R.K. Mishra and City Station House Officer Dheeraj Kumar, visited the hospital to monitor the treatment of the victims. Inspector General (Ayodhya Range) Praveen Kumar, District Magistrate Kumar Harsh, and Superintendent of Police Kunwar Anupam Singh were also present at the site to assess the gravity of the situation.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the initial powerful blast was followed by a series of smaller explosions within the house, which utterly destroyed its roof. The impact also damaged adjacent homes, including Abdul Hameed’s, whose walls reportedly suffered extensive cracking.
The sheer intensity of the explosion was such that its sound reverberated for several kilometers, instilling widespread panic among local communities. The entire area has since been sealed off, with police and fire department personnel remaining on site to conduct thorough investigations.
