Chandigarh: Following his assumption of charge as the Director General of Police for Haryana, O.P. Singh addressed the public, outlining his vision and priorities. He pledged to ensure a pervasive sense of safety in every village, town, and city, accessible day and night.
DGP Singh announced that the Haryana Police will bolster its efforts against organized crime and drug trafficking, while also implementing effective measures to enhance women’s safety. He assured the public that their safety and dignity will remain paramount in all departmental decisions.
In a message to the citizens, Singh stated, “I will be accessible. I will listen. I will act. Our success will be measured not by announcements, but by safer streets, quicker response, and fair investigations. The trust visible on your faces will be our benchmark.” He emphasized that courage and service are Haryana’s defining characteristics.
Singh, a 1992-batch IPS officer, has taken on the additional charge of DGP Haryana during the leave period of Shatrujeet Kapur. He expressed his commitment with humility, promising that public safety and dignity would be prioritized in every decision.
Reflecting on his decades of service, Singh highlighted that public trust is built through listening, strengthened by swift action, and sustained by fair justice. He committed to upholding these standards for himself and the entire police force.
The DGP detailed the police’s people-centric priorities, which include respectful conduct and service; prompt and fair action against organized crime, drug trafficking, and crimes affecting women and children; leveraging technology for public benefit through improved forensics and faster response times; ensuring professional and sensitive maintenance of law and order while respecting democratic rights; and maintaining zero tolerance for internal corruption, coupled with protection for honest officers.
Cyber safety awareness initiatives will be expanded, and the police will implement localized security plans at the station level.
DGP Singh extended his message to all sections of society: “To the youth: your suggestions to improve policing are welcome, I look forward to your cooperation. To mothers and sisters: your safety is our urgent, sensitive, and results-focused priority. To farmers, workers, traders, and industry: safe roads, secure markets, and the protection of lawful livelihoods are our duty. To community representatives, civil society, and the media: partnership builds trust. Regular briefings and public dialogues will be institutionalized.”
This announcement follows the Haryana government’s decision to send DGP Shatrujeet Kapur on leave, alongside the recent transfer of Rohtak Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya, in connection with allegations made in a note by Inspector General Y. Puran Kumar.
