The Hyderabad Traffic Police have initiated an extensive city-wide campaign targeting motorists who use mobile phones while operating their vehicles. Authorities are emphasizing that this dangerous habit remains a significant threat to road safety, despite continuous warnings and public awareness initiatives.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), D. Joel Davis, underscored that mobile phone usage behind the wheel diverts attention, impairs reaction times, and stands as a primary contributor to severe road accidents.
Official data indicates a concerning trend: between January 1 and October 12 this year, the police registered a staggering 80,555 cases related to phone use while driving. This includes 2,345 violations specifically recorded during focused enforcement drives held on October 13 and 14.
Traffic police officials have confirmed that these special enforcement operations will persist across Hyderabad, and all recorded cases will be escalated to court for appropriate penalties. Citizens are strongly encouraged to prioritize their safety and that of others by refraining from mobile phone use while driving, thereby contributing to safer road conditions for everyone.
Members of the public are also invited to report traffic infractions via the Hyderabad Traffic Police’s official social media channels, or by contacting the Traffic Helpline at 9010203626 and the e-Challan helpdesk at 8712661690.
