A heartbreaking discovery was made on Tuesday at the Government Villupuram Medical College and Hospital in Mundiyampakkam when the body of a newborn baby boy was found tragically abandoned in a hospital toilet.
The grim find was made by a woman who, while admitted to the labour ward, entered the toilet and immediately alerted hospital staff. Medical professionals promptly examined the infant and confirmed the baby had died.
Investigators from the Vikravandi police department suspect the infant, who bore bleeding injuries, was likely left in the toilet shortly after birth. As part of their ongoing efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragedy and identify the baby’s mother, police are meticulously reviewing CCTV footage from various areas within the hospital, with a particular focus on the vicinity of the labour ward.
A formal case has been registered, and a thorough investigation is actively underway.
