Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar recently urged healthcare professionals to prioritize creating a disease-free society. He shared this vision while inaugurating the 21st convocation ceremony of the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) at the Government Medical College in Thrissur.
Emphasizing that the core mission of medical providers is clearly outlined in their convocation pledge, the Governor stressed the importance of focusing on disease prevention rather than just treatment.
Despite the challenging doctor-patient ratio, Arlekar highlighted that medical education should aim to cultivate a truly healthy community. He proposed achieving this through a thoughtful blend of modern medical advancements and time-honored traditional healing methods.
He acknowledged the high regard in which society holds medical professionals, underscoring their critical role and the necessity for their services to extend even to the most secluded rural areas nationwide.
The ceremony celebrated the academic achievements of 17,062 students from various KUHS-affiliated colleges, who were awarded their degrees. Special recognition, including mementos and cash prizes, was given to twelve students for securing top honors in their respective subjects.
Among the distinguished awardees was Arun Jay Warrier, a second-year MBBS student from Government Medical College, Thrissur, who received the prestigious Dr. C.K. Jayaram Panicker Endowment Award for his outstanding performance in Microbiology.
The convocation was graced by the presence of key university officials, including Vice-Chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor C.P. Vijayan, Registrar S. Gopakumar, and Controller of Examinations S. Anilkumar, alongside approximately six hundred students and their families.
