Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has made a personal phone call to the 23-year-old survivor of a gang-rape incident in Durgapur, West Bengal. During the conversation, Chief Minister Majhi extended his full support to the young MBBS student and her family. He assured her that the Odisha government stands with them during this difficult time and will manage all necessary arrangements.
The survivor, a second-year medical student, was allegedly attacked by at least five individuals on Friday evening. Following the incident, Chief Minister Majhi also spoke with the survivor’s mother and the Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Women, Shovana Mohanty, who was present with the victim.
In a heartfelt message, the Chief Minister conveyed, “Don’t worry at all. The Odisha government is completely with you and your family. We will look after everything. Do not lose patience. Face the situation with courage.” He wished her a speedy recovery and pledged that strong action would be taken against those responsible for the heinous crime.
Addressing the survivor’s desire to continue her studies, Majhi assured her of all possible assistance. He also indicated that he would look into the possibility of transferring her to a medical college within Odisha, stating, “Since you are a student of a private medical college, I will have to explore possibilities on how to get it done. I have spoken to officials to enquire into it.”
The Chief Minister also inquired if the family had communicated their concerns to the West Bengal Governor, C.V. Ananda Bose, who had visited them earlier. Majhi emphasized that the Odisha government would actively pursue justice by exerting pressure to ensure the culprits are severely punished.
Furthermore, he advised Shovana Mohanty to maintain close contact with the West Bengal government to facilitate the process of obtaining justice for the victim.
