Ranchi: Authorities in Jharkhand have apprehended five members of two different gangs following separate shootouts with the police on Monday. The confrontations led to injuries for two of the suspects.
The first operation took place in the Balsiring area of Tupudana police station limits around 3:30 am. Acting on a tip-off about a gang planning a major crime, police intercepted a motorcycle without a license plate. A pistol was recovered from the individual, who later identified himself as part of the Koylaanchal Shanti Samiti gang, allegedly involved in a prior firing incident. His two accomplices, who were waiting nearby, opened fire when approached by the police. In the ensuing exchange, one of the suspects sustained a bullet injury. All three were taken into custody, and the injured individual received medical treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). Two pistols were recovered from the group, all of whom have previous criminal records.
In a second operation, police arrested two alleged members of the Alok gang in the Mackluskiganj police station area. The suspects, Prabhat Kumar Ram and Sanjay Kumar Das, were intercepted near the Dega-Degi river bridge while reportedly en route to commit a crime. During questioning, Prabhat allegedly snatched a policeman’s pistol and fired shots while leading officers to a hidden motorcycle. Police returned fire in self-defense, hitting Prabhat in the leg. He was also transported to RIMS for treatment. Authorities recovered a 9mm carbine, a 9mm pistol, ammunition, mobile phones, and a document identifying the Alok gang. Prabhat is known to have a criminal history and is wanted in several cases, including those under the Arms Act.
