A Beacon of Hope: Son of Building Collapse Victim Secures Government Job in Kerala

Navaneeth Vishruthan, the son of D. Bindu, who tragically lost her life in the building collapse at Kottayam Medical College on July 3, has officially commenced his government service. On Monday, he joined the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) as a third-grade Overseer within the Maintenance Department, marking a significant step towards rebuilding his family’s future.

An engineering graduate, Navaneeth formally assumed his new responsibilities at a modest ceremony held at the Executive Engineer’s office in Thirunakkara, Kottayam. The event was attended by Devaswom Minister V. N. Vasavan. Navaneeth has been assigned to the TDB Assistant Engineer’s office in Vaikom and will transition to permanent employment after a two-year probationary period. This appointment is a direct result of a cabinet decision made earlier this month, demonstrating the government’s commitment to the family.

This government job is part of a comprehensive support package extended to Bindu’s family following the devastating incident. Previously, the State government ensured that all medical expenses for Bindu’s daughter, Navami, were fully covered. In addition, the family received a substantial financial assistance of ₹10 lakh, and a new house was constructed for them with the invaluable help of National Service Scheme volunteers.

Upon joining the service, Navaneeth expressed his profound gratitude to all who offered unwavering support during his family’s most challenging period. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Vasavan reaffirmed that all promises made by the government to Bindu’s family have been meticulously fulfilled and pledged continued support in the future.

The tragic collapse claimed the life of 52-year-old Bindu, a resident of Thalayolaparambu. She was at Kottayam Medical College accompanying her daughter, Navami, who was undergoing treatment at the trauma care unit. Reports indicate that Bindu was inside the bathroom of the nearly seven-decade-old surgical block when the structure gave way. Despite valiant rescue efforts from the debris, her life could not be saved.

Fortunately, Navami, who was receiving medical care during the accident, has made an excellent recovery following surgery. She is now on track to resume her studies once her health is fully restored, symbolizing resilience amidst sorrow.
