Union Minister Suresh Gopi has candidly shared his wish to step away from politics and resume his acting career, citing financial difficulties. Speaking at a recent event in Kannur, Kerala, the actor-turned-politician revealed that his earnings have drastically reduced since taking on his ministerial responsibilities. “I really want to continue acting. I need to earn more; my income has now stopped completely,” he stated.
Gopi also suggested Rajya Sabha MP Sadanandan Master as a potential successor to his Union Minister role, noting that Master is the youngest member of their party. Gopi recalled his initial reluctance to become a minister, having previously expressed a desire to focus on his cinema career.
He became the BJP’s first Lok Sabha MP from Kerala and has a long-standing career in the Malayalam film industry. The remarks were made after he inaugurated the MP office of Rajya Sabha MP C Sadanandan Master.
This is not the first time Gopi has voiced his inclination towards acting over his political duties. He joined the BJP in 2016 and was nominated to the Rajya Sabha the same year. While he contested and lost Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Kerala in 2019 and 2021, he secured a victory in the Thrissur parliamentary seat during the 2024 general elections.
President Droupadi Murmu had previously nominated Sadanandan Master, a BJP veteran from Kannur, to the Rajya Sabha earlier this year.
