The search for a missing 25-year-old traffic constable has ended in tragedy, as her body was discovered murdered and buried in a remote jungle area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district. Police confirmed the heartbreaking find on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Subhamitra Sahoo, originally from Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district and stationed in Bhubaneswar, was last seen on September 6 when she left her home for duty. Her concerned mother, Sukanti Sahoo, filed a missing person’s report at the Capital police station the following day, prompting a full-scale investigation.
As the probe unfolded, authorities made a significant breakthrough. Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh revealed that Subhamitra had secretly married a fellow police constable named Deepak Rout in July 2024. Rout quickly became the primary suspect in her disappearance, as he was reportedly the last person seen with Subhamitra in Bhubaneswar.
Preliminary investigations strongly suggest that Deepak Rout is responsible for Subhamitra’s murder. Her body was subsequently buried in the Ghatagaon area of Keonjhar district, approximately 170 kilometers from Bhubaneswar.
Commissioner Singh indicated that financial disputes likely fueled this heinous crime. It is believed that Deepak Rout had borrowed a significant sum, approximately ₹10 lakh, from Subhamitra. She had been persistently demanding the repayment of this money, intending to use it to fund a formal ceremony to publicly announce their marriage, a demand that tragically may have led to her untimely death.
