Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi has voiced strong criticism against the current BJP government, alleging a worrying surge in caste discrimination. He highlighted recent disturbing incidents involving senior Dalit officials, such as Supreme Court Chief Justice Gavai and a Dalit IPS officer in Haryana, whose alleged suicide was linked to harassment.
During a press conference held at the Kalwakurthy MLA camp office on Sunday, where he was joined by MLAs Kasireddy Narayana Reddy, Dr. Vamshi Krishna, DCCB Chairman Mamillapalli Vishnuvardhan Reddy, and former Sarpanch Anand Kumar, Mr. Ravi asserted that the BJP’s policies are exacerbating caste divisions nationwide. He argued that while their leaders publicly promote high ideals, their actions are driving Dalits to extreme distress through systematic harassment and humiliation.
Mr. Ravi specifically referenced the deplorable incident involving a boot being thrown at Supreme Court Chief Justice Gavai, stating that such acts have ‘brought shame to India on the global stage.’ He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s restrained reaction to this incident has profoundly wounded the feelings of the Dalit community.
The MP also questioned the silence of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat regarding the ongoing attacks on Dalit officials. He posed a poignant question: ‘If esteemed Dalit IAS officers, IPS officers, and judges cannot find safety within a democracy, what hope is there for the ordinary Dalit citizens?’
Furthermore, Mr. Ravi criticized both the Haryana government and the Union Home Ministry for their inaction, even after the late Dalit IPS officer explicitly detailed official harassment in his three-page suicide note. He remarked, ‘When even his wife, an IAS officer, is compelled to plead for justice, it starkly reveals the deplorable state of our system under BJP governance.’
In a direct jab at Home Minister Amit Shah, Mr. Ravi commented, ‘What purpose does it serve to constantly invoke Ambedkar’s name if his foundational principles are disregarded?’ He further accused the BJP of ‘burying Lord Rama’s true values,’ despite their efforts to construct a temple in Ayodhya. ‘Is the marginalization of Dalits and lower castes truly their vision of Ram Rajya?’ he questioned rhetorically.
