In a compassionate gesture of support, Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, accompanied by Prathipadu MLA B. Ramanjaneyulu, visited Turakapalem village in Guntur district on Sunday, October 12, 2025. They personally handed over cheques worth ₹5 lakh to each of the families grappling with the loss of loved ones due to a recent infectious disease outbreak.
Minister Chandra Sekhar expressed concern over the fear that had gripped the community, highlighting that the Melioidosis outbreak tragically claimed several lives rapidly. He outlined the extensive response efforts, which included conducting approximately 61,000 diagnostic tests and bringing in specialist doctors to manage the crisis. Special wards were also set up at the Government General Hospital in Guntur to provide critical treatment to affected villagers.
He further noted that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu closely supervised the situation, ensuring that the disease did not escalate out of control. The Minister reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to assisting the bereaved families through all available means.
MLA Ramanjaneyulu pointed out that substandard sanitary conditions and insufficient public awareness were probable contributing factors to the outbreak, with delayed diagnosis making matters worse. Nevertheless, he confirmed that collective and focused efforts ultimately brought the situation under control.
Notable attendees at the event included District Collector Thameem Ansaria, Jana Sena Party Guntur District President Gade Venkateswara Rao, DMHO Roja, and Constituency observer Vandana.
