In a deeply somber ceremony, CRPF Head Constable Mahendra Laskar, who tragically lost his life in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Jharkhand, was laid to rest in his native village of Kuwariati, located in Assam’s Nagaon district. The body of the brave constable was reverently handed over to his grieving family by CRPF authorities, casting a pall of profound sorrow over the village as residents gathered to pay their final respects to the fallen hero.
Prominent figures, including MLAs Jitu Goswami and Sashi Kanta Das, Nagaon District Commissioner Devashish Sharma, SSP Swapnaneel Deka, and CRPF Inspector General Virendra Kumar, were present at the cremation to honor Laskar’s supreme sacrifice. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended his heartfelt condolences on social media, expressing, ‘Condolences to the family of braveheart HC/GD Mahendra Laskar of CRPF from Nagaon who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Jharkhand. My thoughts are with his family in this hour of grief. The nation will remember his sacrifice with gratitude.’
Constable Laskar sustained fatal injuries, alongside two other security personnel, during twin IED explosions that occurred in the Saranda Forest of Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district. The incident, which took place on October 10, is strongly suspected to be the work of the proscribed CPI (Maoist), deliberately targeting security forces. Despite receiving urgent medical treatment at a hospital in Rourkela, Odisha, Laskar tragically succumbed to his injuries the following day, October 11.
